Rahul Gandhi Reacts After Delhi Police Registers FIR
Speaking to reporters after the Delhi Police registered an FIR, Gandhi stated that the action was the first step towards justice.

"This is the first step taken towards justice, and the case has been registered. There are pellets in Sahil's body and eyes. Pellets have also struck near his heart, and he cannot see from one eye. It has been a month since this happened. We came to file the FIR at 11:30 this morning. We demanded justice for one citizen of Hindustan and his family, and even that took nearly seven and a half hours. It's worth thinking about that when it takes this much time to get justice at a police station right in the heart of Delhi, what must happen at police stations in villages and small towns," he said.
What Happened During The Jantar Mantar Protest?
According to the complaint filed by Sahil Lochab, a student at Delhi University's School of Open Learning (SOL), the incident occurred during a student protest at Jantar Mantar against the NEET paper leak. Lochab stated that as protesters began marching toward Parliament, police used lathi charges and tear gas, creating a stampede-like situation.
He claimed that while carrying the Indian flag and moving away toward Connaught Place, he turned around, saw an individual in a blue uniform holding a large gun, and was struck by pellets fired from the weapon.
Hospitalisation, Surgeries, And The Impact
Following the incident, bystanders rushed Lochab to Lady Hardinge Medical College, where he underwent his first MLC. He was subsequently transferred to Safdarjung Hospital and then to AIIMS, where he underwent his first eye surgery on July 22.
A CT scan at AIIMS revealed over 200 pellet fragments in his body, including in his eye, neck, chest, near his heart, jaw, and arm. Doctors stated that fragments behind the right eye and near a key vein could not be removed.

By July 25, Lochab reported seeing only darkness in his right eye. Following further examinations at the RPC Eye Centre and AIIMS OPD on July 31, he underwent a second surgery on August 1. However, his vision did not return.
In his complaint, Lochab stated that the injury has affected his studies and his plans to join the Delhi Police, while placing a heavy financial strain on his family.
Demand To Preserve CCTV And Drone Footage
In his complaint, Lochab has demanded that the police preserve all CCTV footage from Jantar Mantar, Parliament Street, Connaught Place, Patel Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, and traffic police. Additionally, he has requested that the police preserve recordings from the drone used during the July 20 incident.
Lochab has also requested documents related to his treatment and MLC records from Lady Hardinge Medical College, Safdarjung Hospital, and AIIMS. Furthermore, he demanded that the pellets removed from his body be preserved and included in the investigation.
