Ahmedabad: A total of 568 Bangladeshi nationals have been detained under Operation Delta, a drive launched by the Gujarat Police to identify and detain Bangladeshi immigrants residing illegally in cities across the state.

According to a report by Jagran.com, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi is personally monitoring the operation, while the Centre of Excellence in Gandhinagar is leveraging advanced software and technology to track their activities.

Director General of Police Dr K Lakshmi Narayana Rao stated that a significant number of individuals were identified through mobile calls being made to Bangladesh.

568 Bangladeshis Identified

According to the data released by the Gujarat Police, 568 illegal Bangladeshi nationals have been detained across the state under 'Operation Delta,' including 282 women and 114 children.

Rajdeep Singh Jhala, Superintendent of Police at the Cyber Centre of Excellence, Gandhinagar, said that the police have been using modern surveillance technologies and software for a long time.

How Did The Police Identify Bangladeshi Families?

Rao stated that police had been monitoring mobile calls made to Bangladesh over an extended period. Based on these call records, the police compiled the data that helped them to identify the Bangladeshi families living across Gujarat.

Gujarat Launches Operation Delta

Sanghavi on Tuesday stated that 'Operation Delta' was launched in Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Surat, Vadodara, and Morbi to identify Bangladeshis residing illegally in the state.

Sanghavi noted that while illegal infiltrators are being removed from West Bengal, they will now be identified and expelled from every corner of Gujarat as well. Sharad Singhal, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch), also stated that approximately 465 infiltrators were deported from Chandola Lake in Ahmedabad last year.
