A new twist has surfaced in the death of Amity University student, who drowned in a construction pit in Noida. The mother of Harshit Bhatthas has raised suspicion over the circumstances of his death, saying that she feels he was murdered.

Harshit's mother Deep Mala said that there were V-shaped bruises on his back and black marks on his entire body. While speaking to news agency ANI, she said, "I feel that my child was murdered because he was always punctual—he would leave home at the exact same time every day and return home at the exact same time. In fact, every single one of his college lecturers has confirmed this, describing him as a very good and decent young man. But today, all of a sudden—I don't know what happened... I went to the morgue, and they showed me my child. His entire body was covered in black marks—as if he had been beaten repeatedly... Furthermore, there are V-shaped bruises on his back..."

She demanded a strict action against those responsible for her son's death. As she has claimed it to be a murder, post-mortem report has confirmed death by drowning. The police have said that an FIR will be lodged in the case soon.

Harshit was 23-years-old and a final-year student of Physical Education at the Amity University. He was a resident of Ghaziabad's Indirapuram area.

He had reportedly gone to an abandoned construction site with his three friends after finishing his exams on Wednesday (April 8). They went inside the water in the pit. While three of his friends returned, Harshit did not, prompting calls for rescue.

His body was later recovered by NDRF drivers. All of the three friends, who were with Harshit during the time of incident have been taken into the custody for interrogation.

According to a report by News18, the Noida Police have shifted the focus of the investigation to whether Harshit fell into the pit or was pushed. As part of the investigation, the police are scanning CCTV footage from Sector 94.

The case has again sparked concerns over negligance as the pit is around 40 feet deep, filled with rainwater. It has no warning signs or barricades.
