Manoj Kumar Sharma, Jewar (Greater Noida). The first phase of Noida International Airport, which is set to become the largest not only in the country but also in Asia, is fully ready for operation. Built on 1,334 hectares of land across six villages in Jewar, with a runway and terminal building, Noida airport's first commercial flight will be operated by IndiGo on June 15.
The airport features several passenger-friendly facilities, including paperless and face-recognition-based Digi Yatra service from entry to boarding, which will enable passengers to board their flights to their destination within minutes without any hassle of queues.
12 million passenger capacity
The Noida Airport, built at a cost of Rs 11,077 crore (approximately $1.2 million) in the first phase, includes a 3,900-meter-long runway and a terminal building. Entry from the parking lot directly opposite the terminal is swift, with security checks completed, and boarding taking just 15 to 20 minutes. The entire process, from entry to boarding, has been completely smartened up.
As soon as you look at the AI cameras installed at the airport and your face is identified, the gate for entry will also open. To save the passengers from crowding, 48 check-in counters will be operational in the forecourt area. For domestic departures from the forecourt, passengers will be able to directly enter the aircraft through the aerobridge built on the runway side, reaching the first floor through escalators. The facility of ten aerobridges has been made available at the airport.
Self-baggage machine capable of handling luggage of more than 100 passengers in an hour
Noida International Airport has installed an excellent self-baggage checking system, which can deposit bags in just 30 seconds. Additionally, 48 check-in counters, nine security lines, and 19 immigration counters have been established. The self-baggage machines at the airport are capable of handling the baggage of over 100 passengers per hour.
Baggage checking at Delhi airport to be five times faster
The Siemens Bario-Tray system at Noida Airport has the capacity to screen and process 70 trays of baggage per minute. This speed is 10 meters per second, five times faster than the 2.1 meters per second of Delhi Airport's ICS. This system is in operation at airports like Dubai, Beijing, and Paris. Six X-ray machines have also been installed at 13 security gates for security screening.
