Following the rise in Delhi, 14 cases of swine flu have been reported in Gautam Buddha Nagar. The patients underwent a diagnosis at private hospitals' outpatient departments, where they tested positive for the H1N1 virus.
Upon receiving the reports on Sunday, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Madan Mohan Mani Tripathi urged people not to panic and to follow preventive measures. The CMO said that the patients showed symptoms like fever, cough, and sore throat.
Teams are monitoring everyone, and the situation is completely under control, he added. The department will issue an advisory to all hospital managers on Monday.
Health department on alert
CMO Dr Tripathi said that 14 people have been experiencing intermittent fever, cough, cold, and sore throat for the past several days. Three or four of them are from outside the district.
Upon receiving the report, the team spoke with the patients, who denied any serious condition. Despite this, the health department is monitoring their condition.
Dr Aadya Singh of the online medicine department at the district hospital said that the change in weather due to rain has increased cases of viral infections.
Children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing medical conditions are most vulnerable. Patients in OPDs are reporting symptoms of viral infections such as fever, colds, coughs, sore throats, and weakness.
Prevention requires drinking plenty of water, eating a balanced and nutritious diet, maintaining hand hygiene, avoiding venturing in the rain and wearing a mask in crowded places. If your fever persists for more than two to three days, you experience difficulty breathing, or your weakness worsens, consult a doctor immediately. Never take antibiotics without consulting a doctor.
