- Harish Rawat denies resigning from Congress party membership.
- Offers to quit key posts if ED raids impact party.
- Aide Chandan Singh Jeena raided, cash and gold seized.
Uttarakhand former Chief Minister Harish Rawat has issued clarification over the reports suggesting his resignation from the key posts of Congress after huge amount of cash and gold was recovered from his close aide in an ED raid. In a post on X, Rawat refuted the reports alleging his resignation from the party, adding that he will not leave the party until his death. The veteran leader also clarified that he will step down from the key posts if the "drama" over the raids continues.
What Did Harish Rawat Say?
"Some sections of the media are reporting the news that Harish Rawat has resigned from the Congress Party. Brother, Congress Party membership is in my blood and bones; it shapes everything that Harish Rawat is. It will go to heaven with me," Rawat said in his post on X.
"Yes, if the ED's hypocritical circus that happened in Dehradun yesterday or the day before has any impact on the narrative of fighting against corruption in the Congress Party, then the positions I hold in the party—member of the state executive and member of the AICC working committee—I would want to resign from those positions," the senior leader added.

भैया, कांग्रेस पार्टी की सदस्यता मेरे खून और हड्डियों में है, हरीश रावत जो कुछ भी है, उस सबका निर्माण करती है। वह तो मेरे साथ ही स्वर्ग में भी जाएगी।

Earlier, Rawat stated that his personal assistant Chandan Singh Jeena was falsely framed, adding that he will resign if the matter weakens the party's efforts in the fight against corruption.

"I am a member of the executive of the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee and a permanent invitee member of the Congress Working Committee at the national level, and with utmost humility, I wish to step down from both these positions, because no weakness should come into the party's struggle on my account," Rawat said in his statement.
'Jeena Being Falsely Framed'
While describing Jeena as "honest" and "hard working", Rawat hinted that the recent action was purely due to the coming polls. However, the former chief minister also asserted that it would be shameful for him if any evidence of tempering was found against his assistant.
"If he tampered with OMR sheets in the Gram Sevak recruitment examination and there is evidence of such wrongdoing, then I am ashamed of this alleged act. However, I do not believe this allegation at all," Rawat stated.
The ED seized Rs 32 cash, gold coins, chains, and 12 luxury watches from Jeena's residence during its search on Friday. The election in Uttarakhand is likely to be held in the early months of 2027.
