UP Shocker: 23-Year-Old Woman Thrown Off Roof by In-Laws Over Rs 30 Lakh & Car Dowry Demand, Dies

Jagran Correspondent | Ghaziabad: In a shocking incident, a 23-year-old woman allegedly died after she was being thrown off the run at her marital home in UP’s Muradnagar, police said on Saturday. The woman suffered severe injuries after falling from the rooftop and was shifted to the hospital and died while receiving treatment. It is alleged that the woman was thrown by her in-laws after she couldn’t fulfil their dowry demands.

The deceased woman’s brother had filed an FIR against the husband, accusing him and his family of killing his sister. The victim has been identified as Akriti and tied knots with Gaurav, residing in Muradnagar.

What's the case?

The victim’s brother Prabhat alleged that her sister’s in-laws demanded Rs 30 lakh and a Scorpio. This was followed by frequent fights and assaults. On September 7, Akriti called her brother, saying that her in-laws were beating her up and her phone got disconnected. Later, the accused, Gaurav, called up saying that she has fallen from the roof and we should come to the hospital. The doctors declared her dead on September 10. The victim’s family believe that the woman has been assaulted and killed by her in-laws.

Reports said the woman and her husband were scheduled to marry in February of this year. During the wedding ceremony, a dispute arose between the two parties, leading to the annulment of the marriage. Later, they entered into a court marriage of their own free will.

FIR Registered

The police had registered an FIR under BNS sections 85 (husband or the relative of the husband of a woman, subjects such woman to cruelty), 80 (dowry death), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), and 352 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace), and also under provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act. It names four in-laws and her husband.
