UP Assembly Election: Ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly election, all the major parties have begun announcing lucrative financial schemes to lure in the women voters. While the ruling BJP has focused on the beneficiary schemes, the Samajwadi Party has been projecting MP Dimple Yadav to expand its vote base. The opposition party's message is clear- Akhilesh Yadav continues to be the face, but Dimple Yadav will actively campaign to bring it back into power after a decade.
Can Dimple Bring Women Voters?
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the BJP has cornered the Samajwadi Party over the issue of law and order. However, the opposition party has decided to project Dimple Yadav ahead of the assembly polls to present a new approach before the voters. Yadav has proposed Stree Samman Samriddhi Yojana, promising Rs 40,000 to the eligible women if the SP comes into power.
Attempt To Expand Voter Base
The Akhilesh Yadav-led party has largely been dependent on its core voter base- Yadavs and Muslims (M-Y combination)- for the past few decades. The party is likely to get a major share of votes from these communities due to an alliance with the Congress. However, the party would need additional votes across the communities to cross the victory line.
While Akhilesh Yadav has been campaigning to lure in the general caste and non-Yadav OBC voters under his popular PDA slogan, Dimple Yadav is being projected to gain the trust of the women and youth voters.
Dimple Yadav As CM Candidate?
Despite all the hype, the party is hesitant to announce Dimple as the chief ministerial candidate, possibly to consolidate the core voter base. However, the party has strategically left the question open-ended to not end the speculations. The assembly election in Uttar Pradesh, along with four other states, is set to be held in the early months of 2027.
