The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notice to Congress leader and Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi in a plea accusing him of pushing a pregnant journalist during the Congress-led INDIA bloc's march to the top court on October 12.

The petition seeking an FIR against Gandhi was mentioned before a bench of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi.

Senior advocate Gaurav Bhatia mentioned the matter and told the CJI-led bench that an application had been filed in a pending petition. He submitted before the court that the female journalist was manhandled on the Supreme Court premises.

He added that the allegations are contained in the plea and are established by the court. After his oral mention, the SC bench issued notice to Gandhi and other respondents.

The journalist in her plea has said that while Gandhi and others were at the Supreme Court on Oct 12 to file a plea against special intensive revision (SIR), she was present at the top court premises and wanted to take a byte from him.

She alleged that she was pushed by Rahul Gandhi and her cameraperson was elbowed by his security personnel. She added that after she was pushed, no one stopped to help her. "Respondent No.4 (Rahul Gandhi) did not even bother, and no one, neither he nor any of the leaders, workers or security personnel accompanying him, stopped to help her or to ask whether she was hurt. With blood coming out of her hands, the Applicant managed to reach a side pavement, where she sat pleading for help for almost 40 minutes," the plea stated.
