Satya Niketan Collapse: In an update in the Satya Niketan building collapse case that claimed seven lives, the Delhi Police on Wednesday arrested the PG Operator. In its statement, the authority stated that Sudhanshu, the operator, has been arrested, adding that further examination is being done. Apart from this, the Municipality Corporation of Delhi (MCD) resumed the demolition work of a nearby building.

'Building Declared Dangerous'

While providing details, the officials stated that the adjoining building had been declared dangerous following the collapse. The demolition work began earlier on Tuesday, but was halted by the authority in the late evening hours. "The building has weakened, and we will take it up for demolition in a calibrated manner in the next 1-2 days," MCD Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

Apart from this, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has directed the officials to use bulldozers against illegal structures. "Conduct intensive inspections of all PG hostels in Delhi and take action against illegal construction. Scrutinise building records, determine exactly when the illegal construction took place, and under whose jurisdiction," she said in a directive.

Earlier during the investigation, Mahesh informed the police that he managed the maintenance on behalf of his parents, adding that the property was leased to the PG operators 'Hostel Daze' earlier in August 2025, reported ANI. He informed that Shubham Tyagi and Sudhanshu were operating the leased property as a PG, reported News18, citing police sources.

Govt To Introduce Policy 

Apart from this, reports suggest that the Delhi government is set to introduce a comprehensive policy to regulate paying guest (PG) accommodations and coaching institutes within the next one-and-a-half months. The government will also develop a common web portal that will provide information on PG accommodations on a single platform. The portal is expected to help students access details about the availability of PGs, facilities offered, and safety standards.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has directed the MCD officials to conduct inquiry and detect the vulnerable buildings in the coming days.
