A viral video has sparked concerns after showing a senior doctor having a drinking party in the post-mortem room of the YCM hospital in Pimpri. The video shows liquor bottles, drinks, snacks, and food plates placed directly on top of a post-mortem table, with an individual fast asleep on an adjacent sofa.

The matter caught attention when a person who had been kept waiting overnight to collect a death certificate recorded himself attempting to wake up medical personnel who appeared to be in a state of stupor. In the video, the person is heard pleading with the sleeping official after waiting for hours.

Medical Officer Suspended

In response to the incident, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) administration launched an investigation. Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Vijay Suryavanshi suspended the doctor involved, Medical Officer Dr Vaibhav Mhaske. YCM Hospital has faced severe criticism over the past five weeks following the release of two viral videos.

What's the matter?

This action initiated after a daily wage labourer from Dharashiv district died in an accident at a construction site in Thergaon and was brought to YCM Hospital.

In the video, the deceased's family can be seen pleading with Mhaske, who appears to be intoxicated, to provide the necessary documents to claim the body. A bottle of alcohol is also visible on the table near him. A friend of the deceased stated that the video was recorded after the family had to wait all night to receive the body. He also alleged that hospital staff demanded money in exchange for immediately handing over the body.

Not an isolated incident

After the video surfaced, allegations of demanding money for handing over bodies at night have drawn attention. Many others have shared similar experiences on social media. Child rights activist Yamini Adbe claimed that YCMH staff demanded 27,000 rupees from a friend of hers in exchange for handing over a body at night.
