Parag Shah, one of Mumbai's wealthiest MLAs representing the Ghatkopar East constituency, disguised himself as a beggar on Monday and wandered the streets of Ghatkopar, going unrecognised for hours. A viral video captured the lawmaker walking through the area and begging for food and money.

What's the story?

The MP made the disguise after a Jain guru, named Namramuni, suggested him to live like a beggar for a day and experience the daily hardships of a poor person living in Mumbai. Following this, the millionaire MLA Parag Shah removed all security arrangements, cars and expensive items and disguised himself as a beggar. He wandered the streets of Ghatkopar as a beggar for a few hours. He ate by begging, sat on the side of the road like a beggar and experienced being a. He also presented this experience in front of his guru and the people.

Later, he went to the same spots after removing the makeup and met people he had encountered earlier. The experience gave him an opportunity to observe the lives and difficulties of people who depend on others for food and alms.

Shah is known as one of Maharashtra’s wealthiest political figures. In his 2024 election affidavit, he declared assets of more than Rs 3,383 crore. His business interests are primarily linked to real estate.
