Jamui Minor Student Case Ground Report: Following the Jamui molestation case, fresh details have emerged about prime accused Nandan Yadav. According to local residents, Yadav was addicted to cannabis (ganja) and had previously worked as a truck helper. He had recently returned to his village and, according to villagers, had fallen into bad company. His family has since left their home.

These details emerged after the Dainik Jagran team travelled to his village following the distressing incident involving a viral video that purportedly showed a boy and a girl being harassed by a group of people on a roadside in Jamui district on September 19.

On Tuesday, two suspects were injured during a police encounter in the Town Police Station area. The prime suspect has been identified as Nandan Yadav, who sustained a gunshot wound to his leg, while another suspect, Hareram Yadav, suffered a leg fracture during the confrontation.

A total of six people, including three juveniles, have been arrested so far. According to police, the two Class 10 students were returning from coaching classes when a group of youths stopped them and allegedly subjected them to inappropriate behaviour.

What Our Ground Report Found

On Tuesday, people were seen sitting in groups around Marwa Pahad, discussing the incident in hushed tones. However, as soon as they noticed strangers or members of the media, most of them moved away.

Residents expressed anger over the incident. Speaking on the condition of anonymity, an elderly villager said, "What happened to the minor children on the road is highly condemnable and unfortunate."

Another 30-year-old youth present at the spot said bluntly that such a heinous act cannot be tolerated under any circumstances.

The villagers said that, regardless of the circumstances, indecent behaviour towards minors is an unforgivable crime. They said the police administration should conduct an impartial investigation and ensure the strictest punishment under the law for all those found guilty.

During the conversation, residents also expressed concern about youths and tourists frequently visiting areas such as Marwa Pahad during the evening. They said the police should maintain regular surveillance and strengthen security arrangements in the area.

Lock on Accused Nandan's House in Pratappur

A large lock was found hanging on the main door of Nandan's house. His family members have locked up the house and reportedly left amid the controversy.

Milan Yadav, a resident of the same neighbourhood, said that no one had any information about where the family members had gone.

Residents also shared details about Nandan's past. Neighbour Milan Yadav said that Nandan had worked as a helper on trucks operating in other states. Some time ago, he left the job and returned to his village, Pratappur, during the paddy transplanting season.

According to villagers, Nandan had fallen into bad company and was addicted to cannabis (ganja).

Cousin Says He Was Addicted to Cannabis

Nandan's cousin, Kamendra Yadav, expressed deep grief over the incident in a conversation with Jagran. He said, "Whatever has happened is utterly wrong and shameful. Nandan has been addicted to smoking cannabis for a long time. The family members and all of us used to repeatedly explain to him to quit his bad habits and bad company, but he wouldn't listen to anyone."
