India-China Border Clash: Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) director general Shatrujeet Kapur has revealed that confrontations with the Chinese troops continue at several sites along the India-China border in Arunachal Pradesh. While speaking at the Himveer Samman Samaroah on Thursday, Kapur informed that confrontation has taken place multiple times in the past few days, adding that the situation continues till date.

What ITBP Director Said?

The ITBP director general, while addressing the ITBP personnel, confirmed that the confrontations have taken place at multiple sites, further praising the on-ground Indian troops for their bravery. "In the past few-days, a situation arose where face-off happened at several locations in Arunachal and it still continues," Kapur stated.

The revelation has come amid the reports suggesting that the confrontations have continued for the past few months, even during Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to India.

'ITBP Needs Modernisation'

Kapur also pointed out that the forces need modern equipments, pointing out that countries like Iran and Ukaraine have challenged larger forces due to their technology. "Drones are something through which a even a small country can challenge a big country We saw how Ukraine has challenged a superpower like Russia," he said.

"The war was supposed to be over in few days, but 10,000 to 15,000 Russian soldiers are being killed, they are suffering. Look at Iran, how, without even a Navy, they, with the help of drones, challenged America," he added.

Congress Raises Questions

While reacting to his remarks, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh slammed the centre by stating that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave "clean chit" to China, the Indian soldiers continue to fight at the border. "India has been paying the price for the PM’s infamous clean chit to China on June 19, 2020," Ramesh wrote on X.

"While the self-styled Vishwaguru’s calibrated concessions to China continue, the DG, ITBP, has lauded—and rightly so—its performance in recent face-offs with the PLA in Arunachal Pradesh, on which there has been a deafening silence from the PM and his establishment," he added.

Govt Sources Reject Claims

However, government sources, as reported by news agency IANS, rejected the claims regarding ongoing skirmishes, saying that the ITBP Director General's statement was not linked to any specific incident and was made in the context of routine preparedness and force deployment along the India-China border.

"The ITBP, a border-guarding force, operates along the border in accordance with the Indian government's policies, orders issued for different situations, and established standard operating procedures. The force may issue an official statement on the matter soon," the sources said, as quoted by IANS.
