INDIA Bloc Protest Highlights: Big Oppn Showdown Likely Tomorrow, Mamata Reaches Delhi; Security Up Across NCR

The INDIA Bloc are expected to stage a massive protest tomorrow, with several opposition party leaders arriving in Delhi today. TMC supremo and former Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee arrived in Delhi on Thursday and is expected to participate in the protest tomorrow. INDIA Bloc leaders today staged a peaceful sit-in at the Gandhi Smarak against CEC Gyanesh Kumar.

This is the third consecutive day that opposition leaders have staged a protest, alleging "hijacking" of the country by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and the Chief Election Commissioner through a criminal conspiracy by indulging in 'vote chori'.

In view of the planned protest by the INDIA bloc on October 9 and CJP on October 10, the Delhi Police has announced that all liquor shops in the national capital will remain shut for the next two days.

All liquor shops in Delhi will remain closed on October 9 and 10 as a preventive measure in view of a protest called by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).

Speaking to news agency ANI,  Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said, "The entire country is united today. The country demands Gyanesh Kumar's resignation. PM should bow before the nation and remember that he himself had called himself 'Pradhansevak'. As the Prime Minister, he should listen to the voice of the country and leave trying to win election through deceit with the help of Election Commission."

Ahead of the opposition leaders' visit at Rajghat, the Delhi Police have deployed additional forces at the site, reportedly to maintain the law and order. 

Rahul Gandhi, while addressing the reporters, alleged that the opposition MPs were not allowed to protest for the past two days. He further stated that the INDIA Bloc leaders will visit the Rajghat to pay tributes to Mahatma Gandhi. 

Samajwadi Party MP Rajeev Rai, on being asked about the party's absence from the opposition's lunch meet yesterday, stated that he was admitted to the hospital yesterday. "I was in the hospital yesterday. Jairam ji also clarified it. The controversy was raised by the BJP," SP MP clarified.

The Delhi traffic police on Thursday issued an advisory, suggesting the commuters to avoid travelling near the Rajghat. The opposition leaders, following their lunch meet, are expected to visit at the site and pay tributes to Mahatma Gandhi. 

The senior opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge arrived at Moets hotel for the lunch meet.

While talking to the reporters, TMC chief Mamata Banerjee on Thursday criticized the Delhi police's action against the protesters during the INDIA Bloc's protest earlier on Wednesday.

"I have seen a lot of atrocities. Everyone has the right to protest in all of India, but what happened to Priyanka Gandhi is not right. Everyone has a sister, mother, child at home. We should give respect to females," Banerjee was quoted as saying by ANI.

Ankit Kasana, a Delhi police constable, on Thursday alleged that he was attacked by the opposition leaders during the protest in the capital city on Wednesday.

The Delhi police on Thursday deployed additional forces at Rajghat amid the reports suggesting that the INDIA Bloc MPs might visit the site following a lunch in the capital city.

A day after massive protest in Delhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has again invited the opposition leaders for lunch at Moets in Connaught Place.

The Congress leaders in Telangana organized a 'Chalo Lokh Bhavan' program on Thursday, seeking resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The ruling party in Telangana organized march from the Indira Gandhi statue to Raj Bhavan in Somajiguda.
