INDIA Bloc March to SC Live: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, along with 10 other INDIA Bloc leaders, on Monday filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court against the Election Commission of India, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners Vivek Joshi and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, over the alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls and the large-scale deletion of voters across the country (nearly 13 crore) during the SIR process.
While the contents of the plea are not in the public domain as of now, it is expected that the Supreme Court might take up the case tomorrow. Rahul Gandhi-led opposition leaders have accused the CEC of taking unilateral decisions regarding the SIR, despite the objection of the other two ECs. Large-scale protests were also organised by the opposition leaders last week, which witnessed intense police action and detentions of several leaders, including Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi.
Before the filing of the writ petition, the opposition MPs marched towards the Supreme Court, but were stopped at the Bhagwan Das Road near Mandi House metro station. However, the legal team of Rahul Gandhi and the Congress filed the petition in the Supreme Court. The leaders named as petitioners are Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Akhilesh Yadav, Saugata Roy, Tejashwi Yadav, Sanjay Raut, MA Baby, D Raja, Mahua Majhi, Supriya Sule and ET Mohammed Basheer.
