In the Gurugram murder case, the police revealed that the accused couple had duped a man of Rs 1.2 crore and demanded more. Cops are investigating whether the victim Yuvraj Singh Manchanda came to know about the alleged activities or not. The duped man alleged he received a WhatsApp message, which read, “Sell your wife or do anything. Just repay this.”
Duped school friend
Investigations revealed that the accused couple, identified as Anya Vats and Sanyam Sachdeva, used to target known people and dupe huge amounts of money. The couple allegedly duped a school friend of Sachdeva and extorted Rs 1.2 crores. The trapped individual worked as a senior vice president for a non-banking financial company, which is a subsidiary of a public sector bank.
He alleged that the extortion started in September 2024, when the complainant got an enforcement directorate notice. Sachdeva claimed to have a connection with high government officials and offered to settle the matter.
To make the case appear true, the couple issued false notices under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, Narcotics and so on. Terrified of being jailed, the complainant alleged he transferred Rs 1.2 crore to Vats’ account using his personal savings and borrowings.
The accused duo then demanded another Rs 26 crore, alleging that the Rs 13.8 crore has been paid to government agencies. After this, the complainant realised that he has been duped and filed a complaint against Vats and Sachdeva.
In the complaint, he mentioned that he was threatened to repay the money before Diwali in a WhatsApp message. Police are also investigating a property case where Sachdeva duped his estranged wife of Rs 4.5 crore in Greater Noida
Singh Planned To Go for Client Meeting
Investigation also revealed that Manchanda was going to meet the duo for a client meeting. A family friend alleged that the deceased mentioned to his fiancee that he is going to attend a client meeting with Vats.
Yuvraj Singh Murder
Yuvraj Singh Manchanda went missing on September 6, after he went to shop for his wedding and had lunch with his siblings. Singh said that he will meet an ex-colleague in Gurugram and return by 10 pm. However, he did not return.
Two days later, on September 8 at around 4:16 pm, they received their last WhatsApp message from Yuvraj, following which his phone went off again. On September 11, Yuvraj's family filed a missing person report at the Lajpat Nagar police station.
Meanwhile, the Gurugram Police found Singh's body and labelled it as unidentified. On September 14, the cops had cremated the body, two days before Singh’s family discovered the death.
