Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a sarcastic dig at the Opposition following the results of the Legislative Council (MLC) elections held across four states, highlighting that the polls were conducted using ballot papers and questioning the Congress's performance.

PM Modi on Wednesday taunted the Congress party for its dismal show in the MLC elections despite the use of paper ballots, a key demand of opposition parties in their campaign against EVMs.

This comes after Congress drew a blank in Karnataka while the BJP won five legislative council seats in Uttar Pradesh and the Samajwadi Party three as results were announced on Wednesday for the MLC elections held in 28 upper house constituencies across four states.

In a post on X, Prime Minister Modi wrote, "MLC elections in 28 seats across 4 big states - Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar and Karnataka.

Elections held using ballot papers.

Guess how many seats Congress won?"

The counting of votes began on Tuesday, with results still awaited in some constituencies.

Congress Draws Blank In MLC Polls

The Congress drew a blank in Karnataka, while the BJP won five Legislative Council seats in Uttar Pradesh and the Samajwadi Party secured three, as results were declared on Wednesday for the biennial elections to 28 seats across four states.

The elections were held on October 23 which covered six teachers' and five graduates' constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, four seats each in Bihar, two each in Karnataka, and three graduates' and two teachers' constituencies in Maharashtra.

Only eligible graduate and teacher voters can participate in these elections, which are conducted using ballot papers rather than electronic voting machines (EVMs).
