Driving Licence Rules: Getting a driving licence could soon become more challenging, as the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has proposed increasing the minimum passing marks for the online safe-driving course test from 60 per cent to 75 per cent.

The proposal also includes a fee waiver for select online driving licence services completed through Aadhaar authentication. The online safe-driving course is expected to last around 30 minutes.

Under the draft rules, licensing authorities would be required to approve or reject applications for changes to driving licence details, including names and addresses, within 15 days. In case of rejection, authorities would have to provide the reasons. The proposal also seeks to waive fees for changes to personal details on driving licences.

The proposed changes aim to strengthen assessment requirements and streamline driving licence-related services.

The draft notification also specifies the documents that applicants can submit as proof of identity, age and residence. These include Aadhaar, passports, voter identity cards, e-ration cards and birth certificates, among other documents.
