When the Delhi Police discovered the 16-year-old girl's body in Swaroop Nagar, they assumed it to be of a man. The decomposed body was unrecognisable with visible skeletal parts and a missing right arm. The cops during the probe assumed that the genitals of the victim were chopped. The teenager had been allegedly raped and murdered by four people, including three minors in the capital.
How did the police identify the victim
The skull and ribcage of the unidentified body were visible; the police officials struggled to identify whether the body was of a man or a woman. It looked more like a middle-aged man. The investigative officials said that the body was found in a pair of blue jeans and with pieces of purple-hued cloth on top, covered with mud.

The body had decomposed, with the abdomen disfigured and the face unidentifiable. She was stabbed, and the preliminary investigations suggested that the teenager’s genitals were chopped off.
In the initial stage, the cops assumed that the decomposed body belonged to a woman. The investigation turned to a significant point when a police official noticed a star tattoo on the victim’s left arm. The three-star tattoo helped the police officials to identify the victim.
Police visited the girl's family in Tri Nagar, which is when her brother-in-law showed some of her pictures, one of them with a tattoo. “We asked if they had any photographs of the girl. The brother-in-law showed some photos on his phone. After scanning a few, there was one with her tattoo: Three stars in a row," the officer said. Later the medical reports confirmed that the minor had been raped and murdered.
The cops are attempting to ascertain the correct age of the victim, who is believed to be 16 years old. An ossification test (a medical and radiological procedure used to estimate a person’s approximate age) is being planned, as no official documents were recovered from the victim’s family.

On Sunday, the police officials found a mutilated body at the Kushak Road in Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar area. The victim’s right hand was missing, and the face and abdomen were disfigured due to decomposition. The teenage girl was raped, stabbed multiple times and then dumped in the open area where animals had attacked her. None of the locals were able to identify the girl.

As the cops scanned CCTV footage across the area, a tempo was spotted at the alleged time of the crime. Even as the number plate was not clearly visible, the police identified the tempo. Following this, the tempo driver was picked up for interrogation. He revealed that his 17-year-old brother frequently took his tempo.
When the cops examined the footage, the four accused were spotted inside the vehicle. The accused were identified soon; however, they had fled their home. Upon initiating a thorough search, the police apprehended all four accused. Among the four, three had already confessed to committing the crime.
