Strong earthquake tremors were felt across Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) late Tuesday night, prompting people in several areas to step out of their homes in fear. The tremors were also reported in parts of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

As per the report of the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the depth of the earthquake was 13 km, and it occurred in the Chamoli district of the Indian state of Uttarakhand. The earthquake had a magnitude of 4.9.

The tremors occurred just as people in the city were getting ready to go to bed, with several locals sharing accounts of quivering in their homes and buildings. Several people living in high-rises in Delhi-NCR were said to be rattled by the movement.

Residents also posted their stories about the quake on social media. No damage or injuries were reported.

One Delhi resident, Supreme Court advocate Avani Bansal, wrote on X, "Felt my entire couch move, the entire building move in Safdarjung Enclave in Delhi! Never experienced anything close!"

Earlier on Tuesday, a 4.5-magnitude earthquake was recorded in Assam's Nagaon district at around 4:23 am, according to NCS data.
