Supreme Court Questions Strict Curbs Ahead Of CJP Protest

The revised advisory comes hours after the Supreme Court questioned the sweeping restrictions imposed in Delhi ahead of the October 10 protest. A bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, along with Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana, expressed concern over the proposed closure of 57 metro stations and the cancellation of trains, stressing that public transport cannot be completely shut down.

The court emphasised that restrictions imposed for maintaining law and order must be proportionate and should not cause undue hardship to ordinary commuters.

The court's observations came amid preparations for the October 10 protest in Delhi. The earlier proposal to close 57 metro stations had drawn widespread criticism over its potential impact on public movement. DMRC's latest update modifies the earlier plan by reducing the closure list to 45 stations.
