BRICS Summit 2026: As the BRICS Summit 2026 begins on Friday, at least 26 trains have been cancelled, and several have been diverted in Delhi, from September 11 to 13. Amid the 3-day summit, multiple trains will witness restrictions; some will face delays of up to 40 minutes or more.

Most of the cancelled trains are the Electric Multiple Unit (EMU), which connect the capital with suburban areas such as Palwal, Shakurbasti and others. An EMU train is a self-propelled passenger train that runs on electricity and does not need a separate engine locomotive.

Multiple long-distance trains, including Rajdhani and other express services, have been diverted through alternative routes to avoid significant sections in the Delhi railway network.

To ensure a hassle-free movement of the VVIPs and the foreign delegations during the global summit, the Northern Railway has set up a detailed plan. The smooth movement amid the Delhi Division is to manage security arrangements. The operational changes include cancellations, diversions, short-originations, short-terminations and regulated running of trains. The restrictions will continue till the summit ends, with the impact varying by train and route.

Several EMU and MEMU services connecting Ghaziabad, Palwal, Shakurbasti and New Delhi have been cancelled. Long-distance trains, including Rajdhani services to Ranchi, Dibrugarh, Sealdah, Howrah and Bhubaneswar, have been diverted via alternate routes. Some trains will start or end at stations such as Ghaziabad, Sahibabad, Delhi Shahdara and Shakurbasti. Several express, superfast and Vande Bharat trains will also face 10–40 minute regulations across NCR, Palwal and Dudia sections. The Banaras-New Delhi Vande Bharat will face a 35-minute regulation over NCR.

Cancelled Trains

September 11, 2026: Five EMU services stand cancelled, including the Palwal–Shakurbasti EMU (64015), two Ghaziabad–New Delhi EMUs (64429, 64433), the New Delhi–Palwal Ladies EMU (64492), and the Delhi Jn.–Shamli EMU (64491).

September 12, 2026: A total of 14 services will remain non-operational. This includes multiple round-trip Ghaziabad–New Delhi EMUs (64425, 64432, 64429, 64433, 64441, 64410), Ghaziabad–Delhi Jn. services (64443, 64445, 64412, 64406), the Delhi Jn.–Ghaziabad MEMU (64418), and the New Delhi–Palwal Ladies EMU (64492). Additionally, two Palwal–Shakurbasti EMUs (64013, 64015) remain suspended due to ongoing Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) infrastructure work in Faridabad.

September 13, 2026: Seven services face cancellations. These include the Palwal–Ghaziabad EMU (64053), Ghaziabad–Delhi Jn. EMU (64439), Sahibabad–Delhi Jn. EMU (64411), Ghaziabad–Shakurbasti EMU (64031), and New Delhi–Ghaziabad EMU (64426), along with the Ballabgarh–Shakurbasti EMU (64071) and New Delhi–Palwal EMU (64078) which were previously suspended for Faridabad track work.

Northern Railway has implemented extensive operational changes—including route diversions and train regulations—across the Delhi Division from September 10 to September 13, 2026, to accommodate VIP movement and security protocols during the BRICS Summit.

Diverted Trains

Numerous prominent long-distance and local services are being rerouted through alternative paths to bypass critical sections around New Delhi Railway Station.

September 10 & 11, 2026: Key premier services departing New Delhi—including the Ranchi Rajdhani (20840), Dibrugarh Rajdhani (12424), Sealdah Rajdhani (12314), Howrah Rajdhani (12306), Bhubaneswar Rajdhani (22812), and the Sampoorna Kranti Express (12394)—are all diverted via New Delhi – Delhi Jn. – Sahibabad. The incoming Dibrugarh – New Delhi Rajdhani (20503) on September 10 is rerouted via Sahibabad – Delhi Shahdara – Delhi Jn. EMU suburban services are also affected; the Hazrat Nizamuddin – Ghaziabad EMU (64419) is diverted via Tilak Bridge and BPNL to Sahibabad, while the Ghaziabad – Mathura Jn. EMU (64904) operates via Sahibabad – Tilak Bridge – Hazrat Nizamuddin Jn.

September 12, 2026: Diversions expand to include major outgoing express trains such as Gomti Express (12420), Shramjeevi Express (12392), Sealdah Rajdhani (12314), Howrah Rajdhani (12302), Vaishali Express (15566), Magadh Express (20802), and Swatantrata Senani Express (12562), all operating via New Delhi – Delhi Jn. – Delhi Shahdara – Sahibabad. On the same day, Banaras – New Delhi Superfast Express (12581) is diverted via Sahibabad – Delhi Shahdara – Delhi Jn. Local passenger and MEMU routes—such as Rewari – Meerut Cantt. (54411), Kurukshetra – Khajuraho Express (11842), Delhi Jn. – Saharanpur Passenger (54473), Panipat – Ghaziabad MEMU (64472), and Ghaziabad – Palwal EMU (64906)—are similarly rerouted via peripheral corridors like Delhi Shahdara, Delhi Safdarjung, Okhla, and Hazrat Nizamuddin.

September 13, 2026: Inbound express and passenger services, including Saharanpur – Delhi Jn. Passenger (54474) and Banaras – New Delhi Shivganga Express (12559), are diverted via Sahibabad – Delhi Shahdara – Delhi Jn. The Meerut Cantt. – Shri Ganganagar Special (14030) travels via Delhi Shahdara, Delhi Jn., and Delhi Kishanganj. Meanwhile, local Mathura Jn. – Ghaziabad (64903) and Palwal – Ghaziabad (64055) EMUs operate via Hazrat Nizamuddin Jn. and Tilak Bridge to Sahibabad.

Regulated Trains

In addition to diversions, several trains will experience operational holds ranging from 10 to 60 minutes across Northern Railway (NR), North Central Railway (NCR), Palwal, and Dudia sections.

September 10 & 11, 2026: The Thiruvananthapuram – New Delhi Kerala SF (12625) faces a combined 60-minute regulation (40 mins over NCR and 20 mins over NR). Major long-distance trains—including Pune – Jammu Tawi Express (11077), CSMT – Firozpur Punjab Mail (12137), and Bengaluru – New Delhi Karnataka Express (12627)—face 60-minute delays split across NCR and Palwal. The SMVT Katra – Chennai Express (16032) is regulated for 15 minutes at New Delhi, the Hirakud Express (20807) for 15 minutes in the Palwal section, and the Ghaziabad – Panipat MEMU (64471) for 20 minutes at Sahibabad.

September 12, 2026: Banaras – New Delhi Vande Bharat (22415) faces a 35-minute regulation over NCR. Paschim Express (12926) and Swaraj Express (12472) are regulated for 35 and 30 minutes respectively in the Dudia section. Gorakhdham Express (12556) is regulated for 50 minutes total across NWR and SPR sections. Local and incoming express trains—including Dhaulpur – New Delhi EMU (64073), Agra Cantt. – Hoshiarpur Express (11905), Kanpur Central – New Delhi Special (2455), Bhubaneswar Rajdhani (20817), and Howrah Rajdhani (12301)—will incur delays ranging between 10 and 30 minutes at Sahibabad, Palwal, or Ghaziabad.

September 13, 2026: Regulations conclude with Agra Cantt. Intercity Express (14211) delayed by 40 minutes across NCR and Palwal, while the Kurukshetra – Hazrat Nizamuddin MEMU (64462) will be regulated for 30 minutes in the Dudia section.

What are the passengers instructed to do?

If travelling between September 11 and September 13, passengers travelling from and to Delhi must check the latest status of their train before leaving for the station. People travelling on affected EMU, MEMU or long-distance services should also check whether their train has been cancelled, diverted, short-terminated, short-originated or regulated.

With several changes being implemented across the Delhi Division, passengers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys and plan their travel accordingly.
