Bihar Crime News: A major scuffle broke out between police officials and locals in Bihar's Sitamarhi on Saturday following the murder of a local representative. Baidyanath Mahato, District Council representative, was brutally shot dead by unidentified criminals in the early hours today, leading to anger among the supporters. The situation worsened after the angered protesters launched an attack on the police vehicles, leading to injury to a senior official.
Police Vehicle Attacked
The police vehicles were attacked when they arrived at the site to clear a road blocked by the angered protesters in the Dumra region. SP Amit Ranjan arrived at the spot upon being informed of the incident and assured the locals of justice in the matter. As per the reports, Traffic Police Station Head Prashant Kumar got severely injured in the attack and was rushed to a local hospital by the fellow officials.

Local Leader Shot Dead
As per the eyewitnesses, Mahato, husband of District Council Area Number 13 councilor Khushdil Devi, was attacked by the miscreants during his routine morning walk on Saturday. The attackers fired several rounds at him, causing severe injuries and death on the spot.
While accusing the police of inaction, the locals stated that Mahato's house was attacked earlier on August 28. The police lodged FIRs against three people; however, none of them were arrested, leading to questions on the police action. The officials stated that a detailed probe has been launched into the matter, adding that justice will be provided to the kins.
Police Launches Probe
"Baidhanth Mahato died from gunshot wounds. Police are investigating all aspects of the incident. Separate teams are conducting raids to arrest the criminals," Mukesh Kumar, Station House Officer, Dumra (Sitamarhi), was quoted as saying by Jagran. As per the reports, following assurance from the SP, the protesters agreed to clear the road; however, they have demanded the encounter of the individuals involved in the case.
