Odisha Couple Assaulted: Amid massive outrage over a girl assault case in Bihar's Jamui, another incident of similar nature has been reported in neighbouring state, Odisha, in which a young tourist couple was harassed and attacked by a group of men. The couple were on their way to the hill shrine of Kapilash in Odisha's Dhenkanal district, when they were stopped and assaulted.

Sources said the incident took place on an isolated stretch of a road leading to the famous Shiva temple atop the lush green Kapilash hills.

Police Detain Two Accused

Police on Tuesday detained two persons for allegedly harassing the tourist couple on their way to the hill shrine of Kapilash. They registered a case and nabbed the two accused, taking cognisance of a video shared widely on social media.

The video purportedly showed some people intercepting the bike-borne couple and assaulting the man, with the woman shouting for help. However, The Daily Jagdran could not independently ascertain the veracity of the video.

"In connection with the video circulated on social media, an FIR has been registered at Gondia Police Station. As investigation is underway," said Dhenkanal Superintendent of Police Abhinav Sonkar.

He said that two persons have been detained based on the preliminary investigation. Further action will be taken after getting prima facie evidence against them, the officer said.

Outrage Over Bihar's Jamui Horror

On the other hand, police intensified action in Bihar's Jamui case, in which a girl and a boy, who were said to be studying at the same coaching centre, were caught hold of by the group on a road and allegedly harassed.

Video clips circulating on social media purportedly showed the girl being groped. The incident came to light on Monday when clips of the incident, apparently shot by one of the alleged perpetrators, went viral on social media. The video created a huge outrage. People seek strict action against the culprits.

Two accused in the harassment of a boy and a girl in Bihar's Jamui district were nabbed by police on Tuesday following an encounter in which both were injured. With this, the total number of people held in connection with the September 19 incident has reached five.
