Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai left for Delhi from Chennai on Monday amid growing speculation over his political future, with reports suggesting that he may be preparing to launch a new political platform.

The speculation gained momentum after Annamalai was asked whether he was planning to float a new party. Without directly denying the reports, he responded, "Please wait. We will sit down and talk in two days."

His remarks come amid intense discussion on social media over his next political move. This comes just after the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, which marked a historic shift in state politics as TVK won 108 seats in its debut election, ending the decades-long dominance of the DMK and AIADMK formations.

Will Annamalai Launch A New Party?

Former IPS officer Annamalai joined the BJP in 2020 and served as the Tamil Nadu BJP president from 2021 to 2025.

During his tenure, he emerged as one of the BJP’s most prominent leaders in Tamil Nadu. Known for his aggressive campaigning style, Annamalai travelled extensively across the state and built a strong support base among youngsters and social media users.

Posters Trigger Speculation In Coimbatore

Ahead of Annamalai’s birthday, giant posters put up by his supporters across Coimbatore have further intensified speculation surrounding his political future.

The posters, carrying slogans such as “Our Leader, Come and Lead Us,” have appeared across major roads and public areas in the city ahead of his birthday celebrations.

The posters have further fuelled the speculation about the possibility of Annamalai launching a new party. They are also being widely viewed as a show of strength by his supporters.

Over the past few years, Annamalai has emerged as one of the BJP’s strongest faces in Tamil Nadu. However, he has largely maintained silence over reports regarding his political future, neither confirming nor denying the speculation. His latest remarks have only deepened the mystery surrounding his next move.

Several media reports have claimed that former Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai may soon announce his exit from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

According to News18, citing sources, Annamalai is keen to ensure that his departure remains “amicable” and does not lead to a public confrontation with the BJP leadership.

Reports further suggest that he may launch a people’s movement first, with speculation growing over whether it could later be converted into a political party. While several media reports also claim that his possible exit is not due to strained relations with the BJP leadership, but part of a “new experiment” in Tamil Nadu politics.
