Jagran Bureau, New Delhi | The government is planning a complete overhaul of the National Testing Agency (NTA), which has been under fire since the May 3 NEET UG 2026 examination paper leak. The NEET UG examination was officially cancelled following the outrage led by the students and teachers.

Now, following serious negligence and failure to adhere to established security procedures, the government is preparing to upgrade the entire NTA system and oust incompetent staff. However, given the NEET-UG re-examination scheduled for June 21, the action is likely to come later. However, if the culprits are identified, they will be punished immediately.

Govt Likely To Take Action Based On CBI's Findings

According to sources, this major action plan against the NTA has been made based on initial input from the CBI, which is investigating the paper leak case. The plan includes strict action against the perpetrators and the possible dismissal of long-time serving officers and employees. Sources believe that due to their long-term presence, most of them have come into contact with the exam mafia in some way or another. Therefore, they can easily obtain information about any exam through them. The involvement of employees within the NTA is being reported to be behind the NEET-UG paper leak.

Responsibilities To Be Fixed On NTA Officials

The sources said long-term officers at the NTA may be replaced. The impact could also reach the Ministry of Education. Additionally, a new structure within the NTA may be established based on the recommendations of the High Power Committee and learning from the recent paper leak incident. Responsibilities of all NTA officers and employees will also be determined.

They will also be asked to fill out an affidavit stating that strict action will be taken if they are found to be involved in any irregularities. It is noteworthy that at present NTA is a testing agency which is responsible for all the major entrance examinations, including NEET, JEE.
