In the latest development in the NEET UG 2026 paper leak case, the CBI found out WhatsApp chats in which the accused assured candidates they may score between 500 and 600 marks in their examinations. The investigating team revealed that one of the accused, Shubham Khairnar, informed his supplier in Pune that he had secured a copy of the exam paper.
The leaked paper was finalised by April 29. Following this, Khairnar and others manipulated the candidates appearing for the NEET examination to get the leaked papers. He lured the students, saying that this will further make their way to prestigious medical colleges. While conducting an investigation, police discovered some online messages between the accused people.

What Did The WhatsApp Chats Reveal?
According to a report in NDTV, Khairan assured the students of the scheme's success. In the WhatsApp messages, he offered a 'guarantee' that candidates would get between 500 and 600 marks. The NEET-UG exam is conducted for 720 marks.
The chats indicated that he was continuously in touch with a criminal syndicate for the purpose of sharing the leaked question papers.
The CBI has seized chat logs, copies of the leaked question papers, and other crucial digital evidence from Shubham's mobile phone.
After leaking the paper in Maharashtra, the paper was circulated to several states, including Haryana's Gurugram and Rajasthan's Jaipur and Sikar—a major coaching hub—as well as Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar, and Kerala.
Who is Shubham Khairnar?
Shubham Khairnar (30) belongs to the Indiranagar locality of Nashik and is a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) student. He allegedly bought the leaked NEET-UG paper from a Pune-based suspect for Rs 10 lakh and sold it to a buyer in Haryana for Rs 15 lakh, earning a profit of Rs 5 lakh.
The CBI arrested Shubham on Tuesday after he went out to pray at a temple. However, the prayers did not work, and he was caught. Khairnar had changed his appearance to evade detection. The police used software and compared his recent photos with older photographs.
