A 20-year-old NEET aspirant died by suicide in Maharashtra's Nagpur after the paper was cancelled following a leak. The girl identified as Akanksha Chaturvedi aka Sneha belonged to Madhya Pradesh's Mauganj district. She allegedly died by hanging herself in her room in Nagpur, where she used to live.
She has left behind a suicide note apologising to her parents and explaining the leak as the reason behind the extreme step. In the note, she said, "I don't have the courage to take the exam again."
According to relatives, after returning home from the NEET exam on May 3, she hugged her father and said, "Dad, your daughter will become a doctor now. I did very well in my exam."
However, the news of the paper leak and subsequent paper cancellation left her disheartened on May 12. According to her relatives, traumatised Akanksha stopped eating and drinking and isolated herself from the family.
"Mom and Dad, you had faith in me that my daughter would study and become a doctor, but I don't dare to take NEET again. I was getting good marks in the previous NEET exams, but what guarantee is there that I'll do well again? Sorry, Mom and Dad, I've ruined everything for both of you," she wrote in her suicide note.

Akanksha's father, Krishna Kumar Chaturvedi, is a farmer who owns approximately 4.5 acres of land in the village of Magania in Mauganj.
Facing financial difficulties, he took a loan of Rs 3 lakh using a Kisan Credit Card. He also borrowed from some relatives. To ensure his daughter's better education, heart patient Krishna Kumar moved with his family to Nagpur and started working as a cook.
Rahul Gandhi questions PM Modi
On Thursday, Rahul Gandhi took to X and lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling her suicide a result of a corrupt, broken system.
He wrote, "Akanksha wanted to become a doctor and serve the nation and society. Akanksha's father is a farmer. To fulfill his daughter's dream of becoming a doctor, he took a loan of ₹3 lakh on a Kisan Credit Card. And he took up a job as a cook in Nagpur, so that his daughter could attend coaching there. A father did everything he could. Then the NEET paper leaked. The exam was cancelled. In that uncertainty, Akanksha left us forever. Akanksha's death was not suicide—it's the consequence of a corrupt, broken system under Modi ji."
Gandhi also questioned no action over Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. "And Dharmendra Pradhan ji? He's still in his chair today. The same committee. The same transfers. The same investigations. No reforms, no justice," the Lok Sabha LoP added.
