NEET Paper Leak: The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Friday terminated 47 officials from service. The agency stated that legal and criminal action will be initiated against some of them, with further reform measures expected to follow, news agency ANI reported.

The move is a part of comprehensive overhaul of the NTA that has been in controversies over examination paper leaks.

NTA Set To Undergo Complete Overhaul To Build Leak-Proof Exam System

Following widespread controversy over the NEET-UG paper leak, the Centre has initiated a comprehensive overhaul of the National Testing Agency (NTA), which is set to be carried out over the next month. Based on the recommendations of an expert committee, the overhaul aims to establish a robust, leak-proof examination system by introducing sweeping structural and technological reforms designed to enhance transparency, accountability, and operational efficiency across the agency.

Focus On Outsourcing Framework

A key focus of this transformation will be the NTA's outsourcing framework and operational processes. According to News18, the government plans to overhaul the agency's outsourcing framework to strengthen oversight and plug existing vulnerabilities.

This proposed overhaul is set to reshape the agency's overall functioning and restore public confidence in national-level assessments. The NTA currently conducts 15-20 national-level entrance and recruitment examinations, including JEE and NEET.

Heavy Fines, Trials In Fast-Track Courts For Paper Leaks

This comes amid protests by the Congress Janta Party (CJP) over the NEET paper leak controversy. Earlier in the day, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Parliament House complex, approved key amendments to the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.

The draft amendments are likely to increase the jail terms of the accused and also hike the penalties imposed on them. The proposal may also include trials of the accused in fast-track courts, as announced by PM Modi on Thursday, and punishments within three months.
