The Delhi Government is preparing to submit three strategically selected site proposals to the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) and the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) for the proposed development of Namo City. The final location will be finalised after a detailed assessment of technical feasibility, geographic advantages and transit connectivity.

According to senior officials, finding enough land within Delhi’s existing urban areas for a large greenfield township is no longer realistic. As a result, the three proposed corridors have been identified under the Land Pooling Policy and aligned with the Delhi Master Plan 2041 (MPD-2041).

Which locations could be shortlisted?

1. Narela-Bawana (North-West Delhi)

Why? - This area stands out mainly because of the large stretches of available land. It already has strong road connectivity through NH-44 (GT Karnal Road) and UER-II. In the coming years, connectivity is expected to improve further with the proposed Rithala-Narela Metro extension and the Delhi-Panipat Namo Bharat (RRTS) corridor. Together, these upgrades could make it one of the most well-connected outer zones of Delhi.

2. Dwarka Phase-2 & Najafgarh Border (West Delhi)

Why: This location is considered premium due to its proximity to the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport and Dwarka Motorway. It also sits close to major developments like Yashobhoomi (IICC) and the Diplomatic Enclave. Officials believe this zone has strong potential for corporate offices, business districts, and a more modern "walk-to-work" lifestyle.

3. Alipur-Burari Belt / New Sectors of Rohini

Why: This stretch is being seen as another practical option because of available land under the Land Pooling Policy and its strong regional road network. With access to the Eastern Peripheral Motorway and GT Road, it connects easily to both Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

What 'Namo City' could mean for Delhi-NCR

The idea behind Namo City is to build a planned, greenfield smart township that looks very different from traditional Delhi neighbourhoods. The focus is on modern infrastructure designed for future needs rather than incremental upgrades.

Government plans include smart underground utility systems, automated waste management, and 24x7 water and electricity supply. A large portion of the city is expected to be kept as green space to ensure better air quality and open environments.

Transport is also expected to be a key focus, with strong integration into metro networks and the Namo Bharat (RRTS) system, aiming to make travel across Delhi and NCR faster and more seamless. Electric vehicles and cycling infrastructure would likely be prioritised to keep the area cleaner and less congested.
