Instagram Friendship Turns Into Blackmail: Class 12 Girl Held Captive, Tortured, Raped For 24 Hours In Nagpur Before Dramatic Rescue

In a chilling incident, a Class 12 girl was allegedly held captive, tortured and raped multiple times for over 24 hours at a rented apartment in Maharashtra's Nagpur. The ordeal continued in south Nagpur's Dighori area before she was rescued on Monday night.

According to police, the suspect has been identified as Nirbhay Pakhare, a 20-year-old undergraduate management student and the son of a prominent doctor couple in Thane.

As per a report by Hindustan Times, Pakhare created a fake Instagram profile, named Akash Mehra, in May last year. He connected the victim through that profile. After building a friendship with her online, he allegedly obtained explicit photographs of her. He used the photos to blackmail her into meeting him in person.

During the probe, police found out that Pakhare had initially assaulted the girl at a hotel. Later, he rented the Dighori apartment with an intent to continue abusing her during his trips from Thane.

On Sunday, Pakhare brought the girl to the apartment but didn't free her this time. When she didn't return home on Monday, her father, a senior government official, filed a complaint with the police.

The police swung into action and got a breakthrough after analysing her Instagram chats. The digital footprints of the accused revealed the address of his Thane residence. The cops contacted his family.

Nagpur Police requested the Thane Police to convince his mother to call him. After the accused picked up his mother's phone, the police started zeroing him down. The cops got another crucial lead when the accused pressured the victim to make a call to her parents to assure them of her safety.

The report stated that the cops traced the accused and victim to the apartment at 11 PM. Before showing up, the cops tracked an online food delivery executive heading to the same address. They discreetly followed him to the location before launching the late-night raid.

When the police team reached the location, they found the girl tied to the bed and a knife placed next to her.

The victim had multiple injury marks and was pleading for mercy. After seeing the cops, she broke down. The accused was present on site and was overpowered by the cops. The girl was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

The girl was allegedly sexually assaulted multiple times and was filmed. The accused was arrested, presented before the court and was remanded in police custody for two days.
