Heavy rainfall continued to disrupt normal life across Mumbai and neighbouring areas on Sunday, with waterlogging reported at several locations and commuters facing difficulties during the morning hours.
Commuters in Nalasopara were forced to wade through waist-deep water on the eastern side of Nalasopara Railway Station after continuous downpour since Saturday night caused severe waterlogging. A large crowd was seen gathering on station premises while the commuters were spotted getting through the water to reach their destination.
Similarly, the neighbouring Vasai-Virar region is also witnessing heavy rains since Saturday night. Multiple roads within Nalasopara, including in and around Centre Park and at Tulinj bridge, were waterlogged, which posed a problem for both motorists and pedestrians commuting to various parts.
Dadar, the commercial hub of Mumbai, also recorded continuous rainfall, inconveniencing all the commuters. The accumulation of water on railway tracks was seen at Kurla station too due to the extended downpour.
Weather Forecast
Weather conditions are expected to persist as IMD has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane and Palghar for Sunday. The weather department had predicted thunderstorms with lightning, light to moderate rain, and windy conditions of 40-50 kmph at several places.
"The sky will generally remain cloudy with occasional moderate rain or thundershowers, accompanied by lightning and strong winds of 40-50 kmph. Isolated areas may also experience heavy rain," IANS quoted IMD.
More rainfall is expected on Monday in Mumbai due to persistent conditions prevailing over the city and its suburbs.

The weather department has forecast moderate rainfall in Mumbai on Sunday, which also marks the first day of the city's famous Ganesh festival. The festival will see huge crowds of devotees and commuters on the roads of Mumbai, even during the rains.
The Ganesh idol immersion processions are to be performed on Tuesday. Mumbaikars could likely experience light to moderate rainfall throughout that day, as Mumbai is expected to remain wet as the processions are scheduled.
