Mukul Roy had stepped back from politics as his health declined. By early 2023, doctors had diagnosed him with dementia and Parkinson’s disease, which affected both his memory and mobility. In March 2023, he underwent brain surgery to treat hydrocephalus, a condition where excess cerebrospinal fluid increases pressure in the brain. His health further deteriorated in July 2024 after a fall at home that caused a head injury, requiring surgery to remove a blood clot.
Alongside neurological issues, Roy battled chronic diabetes, respiratory problems, and high blood sugar, which weakened his overall condition. Associates noted that these ongoing health challenges left him increasingly frail, marking a period of prolonged struggle in his final years.
