- Kerala reports 6 deaths from floods and landslides, 6 missing.
- IMD issues rain alert for Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh.
- Gujarat faces severe flooding; 27,000 people evacuated.
Monsoon Fury: Torrential rains have wreaked havoc in Kerala, where six people have died so far due to landslides and floods, while the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain alert in Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh.
Heavy Overnight Rain Lashes Delhi
Heavy rain lashed Delhi-NCR on Saturday night bringing relief from the heat. IMD has forecast light to moderate rain and thundershowers in Delhi-NCR on Sunday. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 34 degrees Celsius and the minimum around 26 degrees Celsius. It will remain cloudy throughout the day. As per IMD, weather changes will impact all 75 districts in Uttar Pradesh.

IMD Puts Kerala Districts On Red Alert
IMD has issued an orange alert for Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Palakkad. Heavy rains wreaked havoc in Kerala on Saturday. Six people were killed and six others were reported missing due to landslides and flooding. IMD has issued a red alert for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod.
According to the Chief Minister's Office, four people died in separate landslides in Idukki and Kottayam districts. Rescue operations include personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Fire and Rescue, police, coast guard, and local administration. 65 relief camps have been opened across the state, where 1,465 people are sheltering.
What Did Kerala CM Say?
Chief Minister VD Satheesan said 17 houses were completely destroyed, while 127 were partially damaged. In Idukki, 65-year-old Sumathi died; her husband and son were rescued. In Vagamon, 77-year-old Prabhakaran Nair also died. In Poonjar, Kottayam, a young woman, Josephine, died; her mother was found trapped under the rubble.
Flooding and minor and major landslides were reported in Idukki, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Kozhikode, and other districts. Traffic was disrupted in many areas, and water levels in rivers and dams rose. The gates of several dams were opened.
The Chief Minister has directed the ministers of the respective districts to be on the spot and handle relief operations.
Heavy Rains Hit Gujarat
Torrential rains lashed parts of south and central Gujarat on Saturday, forcing 27,000 people to be evacuated. Ambika taluka in Surat district received 611 mm of rain in 24 hours.
Surat, Navsari, Bharuch, and Tapi, as well as districts like Kheda and Anand in central Gujarat, received more than 400 mm of rain. According to IANS, the army rescued 34 people in flood-hit Surat. Several villages have been cut off due to the flood-like situation.
Flood Situation In Assam
The flood situation in Assam showed slight improvement on Saturday, with the number of people affected falling to 1.78 lakh, although the number of submerged districts increased to seven.
No casualties were reported in the state in the last 24 hours, an official bulletin said, adding that the death toll remained stable at 82.
