Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) on Tuesday threatened to attack 18 United States companies in the Middle East from April 1 in retaliation to attacks on Iran.
According to a report by news agency Reuters, quoting state media, these 18 companies include, Apple, Microsoft, IBM, Google, Tesla. Among other firms on target include, Meta, Boeing, General Electric (GE), Intel, Dell Technologies, Cisco Systems, Oracle, Nvidia, JPMorgan Chase, Palantir Technologies, HP.
In a statement released via Iran's state-aligned Tasnim news agency, the IRGC warned on Tuesday that it will begin targeting US tech companies operating in the region starting at 8:00 pm local time. The IRGC has urged residents and employees living near these corporate facilities to evacuate immediately.
Why Iran is planning to attack US firms?
Iran is planning an attack on US firms as it considers the ICT and AI firms key in designing and executing assassinations. It is worth mentioning that former Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was reportedly assassinated using an AI-powered target production system to analyse data and pinpoint his location.
As technology and these big firms are key to US economy, Iran is planning to hit them.
How it will impact India?
India is less likely to face direct effects of the attacks on US ICT and AI firms but would face ripple effects.
Impact on Indian IT and tech sectors: Indian IT companies, including TCS and Infosys among others, rely on US tech ecosystems, In wake of attacks, there could be project delays and reduced outsourcing, affecting Indian IT professionals and others.
Stock market: The 18 companies listed by Iran are not only America's but world's some of the biggest firms. Attack on them and hinderance on their operations would sent shockwaves to the entire IT ecosystem. Similarly, JPMorgan Chase is the leading global financial services firm and largest US bank by assets. Attacks on such financial and IT firms could trigger broader market volatility.

Cloud services to be hit: Many Indian platforms depend on cloud services of Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS and Google Cloud. Depending on severity of attacks, services like banking, e-commerce, OTT, digital services, fintech systems, trading systems and payment systems could face delays or disruptions.
