West Bengal: In a clear sign of growing discontent within the Trinamool Congress, only eight MLAs attended a fresh huddle on Friday at former West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee's Kalighat residence in Kolkata.

This comes days after 60 of the party's 80 MLAs skipped a key meeting, leading to its cancellation.

Abhishek Banerjee, Derek O'Brien Among Few To Attend Meeting

According to a report by NDTV, only a small fraction of Trinamool Congress MPs in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha attended the meeting on Friday.

Out of the party's 28 Lok Sabha MPs, only four were present at the meeting at Mamata Banerjee's Kalighat residence in Kolkata, while 11 of the 13 Rajya Sabha MPs skipped the huddle.

Abhishek Banerjee was among the MPs who attended the meeting. Derek O Brien and Dola Sen were the only Rajya Sabha MPs to turn up. The MLAs who attended the meeting included Madan Mitra, Beena Mondal, Ashima Patra, Firhad Hakim, Kunal Ghosh, Sovandeb Chattopadhyay, Biman Banerjee and Ashok Deb.

What TMC Said?

The party later clarified that it was a National Working Committee meeting and not all MPs and MLAs had been invited.

"Pls note - it was a NATIONAL WORKING COMMITTEE and not of ALL MLAs or MPs. Many MPs like Mahua Moitra, Sushmita Dev, Mukul Sangma and Rajesh Tripathi, who are part of the National WC, had joined virtually," the party said.

What Happened In The TMC's National Working Committee Meeting?

Speaking to news agency ANI, Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee announced a series of decisions made at the party's National Working Committee meeting.

- Derek O'Brien and Dola Sen were appointed as the National Joint Secretaries. They assist National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

- Subrata Bakshi will continue as vice-president of the National Working Committee.

The party also reconstituted the West Bengal Pradesh Trinamool Congress Committee. Here's the initial list:

- State President: Chandrima Bhattacharya

- Vice Presidents: Sajda Ahmed, Mamata Thakur, Nayana Bandyopadhyay, and Swati Khandekar

- State General Secretaries: Babar Ali, Pulak Roy, Ashima Patra, Aroop Biswas, and Rajib Banerjee

- Treasurer: Subhasish Chakraborty

- Spokespersons: Chandrima Bhattacharya, Kalyan Banerjee, Madan Mitra, and Kunal Ghosh (with existing panellists to continue)

- Executive Members: Jyotipriyo Mullick, Dr Rana Chatterjee, Bidesh Bose, Trinankur Bhattacharjee, Jaya Dutta, Tapas Chatterjee, Vasundhara Goswamy, and Goutam Deb

- TMYC General Secretary: Madhurima Thakur
