- Mamata Banerjee updated her bio reflecting CM tenure.
- Suvendu Adhikari sworn in as West Bengal's first BJP CM.
- Oath ceremony was held in Kolkata with top BJP leaders.
Mamata Banerjee has updated her bio to read “Chief Minister of West Bengal (15th, 16th and 17th Vidhan Sabha)” days after denying that she would step down following the Trinamool Congress’ defeat to the BJP in the Assembly elections.
Her updated bio now reads: “Founder Chairperson All India Trinamool Congress. Chief Minister of West Bengal (15th, 16th and 17th Vidhan Sabha).”
Earlier, the bio stated: “Founder Chairperson All India Trinamool Congress. Honourable Chief Minister, West Bengal.”
Suvendu Takes Oath As First BJP CM Of West Bengal
The development came hours after Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday took oath as West Bengal’s first BJP chief minister, marking a dramatic saffron shift in the state’s political landscape. The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Brigade Parade Grounds in Kolkata.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, senior BJP leaders, and chief ministers of NDA-ruled states attended the event.
Adhikari, who won from both the Bhabanipur and Nandigram constituencies, took oath first, followed by senior BJP leader and former state unit chief Dilip Ghosh, who was inducted into the cabinet as a minister.
BJP legislators Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtania, Kshudiram Tudu and Nisith Pramanik were also administered the oath as ministers.
Earlier on May 5, former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleged a conspiracy behind her party’s defeat in the Assembly elections, claiming that the BJP’s victory was not a reflection of public mandate.
Addressing a press conference in Kolkata, Banerjee also ruled out resigning as chief minister, triggering a fresh political controversy after the BJP secured a decisive mandate in the state.
“The question of my resignation does not arise, as we were defeated not by a public mandate but by a conspiracy. I did not lose, I will not go to Lok Bhavan. They can take action as per constitutional norms,” she said.
