Following the end of the 15-year-old rule of the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and his nephew Abhishek Banerjee were faced with another setback on Wednesday morning after security arrangements were reduced out of their residences.

Mamata Banerjee’s residence was 188A Harish Chatterjee while 121 Kalighat Road was TMCs headquarters. 9 Camac Street had Abhishek Banerjee’s office.

“Police arrangements outside three premises – 188A Harish Chatterjee, 121 Kalighat Road and 9 Camac Street – have been scaled down from 6:30 am on Wednesday. Some of the security arrangements like scissor barricades were replaced by manual guardrails on Tuesday,” said a police officer, as quoted by a Hindustan Times report.

On Tuesday, advanced arrangements such as scissor barricades that were placed ahead of CM’s house were removed. The scissor barricades were replaced by manual guard rails.

“Only the Z+ security arrangement will remain. The extra police personnel, who were deployed beyond the Z+ category security, were withdrawn,” said an IPS officer, as quoted by the report.

In the West Bengal Assembly Election, the BJP routed TMC in a landslide victory, securing 207 out of a total of 293 seats that went to counting. The BJP rose from 77 in 2021 to 207 in 2026, while the TMC declined from 215 in 2021 to 81 in 2026.

Mamata Refuses To Quit As Bengal CM

Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday refused to resign from the office, saying that she was not defeated by the public but by a conspiracy. Speaking at a press conference, she said, "No question of me resigning, we were defeated not by public mandate but by conspiracy."

She accused the BJP of capturing all the institutions and misusing them against the TMC. CM Mamata also lashed out at the Chief Election Commissioner, referring to him as 'the villain of the election.'

Making huge allegations, CM Mamata said that she was kicked, pushed and manhandled inside the Bhabanipur counting centre on Monday evening.
