Madhya Pradesh Bus Fares Hike Likely, 20-25% Increase Expected This Month; Check Per Km Rate

State Bureau, Naidunia, Bhopal | Passenger bus fares on various routes in Madhya Pradesh are expected to increase by 20 to 25 per cent starting this month, sources said, adding that the government may accept the demand of the bus operaters. Currently, bus fares are set at Rs 1.25 per kilometer, which could be increased to Rs 1.50 to Rs 1.75 per kilometer.

The Transport Department is preparing to issue a notification this month. An official statement on the increament of the bus fare is awaited.

Key Meeting Held At Ministry Of Transport On Bus Operators' Demands

A meeting was held at the Ministry of Transport on Monday regarding seven demands of bus operators, including a fare increase. Transport Minister Uday Pratap Singh, Water Resources Minister Tulsi Silavat, Madhya Pradesh Bus Owners Association general secretary Jaikumar Jain, and vice president Virendra Sahu attended the key meeting to find a solution.

The bus ownders' association demanded a fare increase of Rs 2.50 per kilometer. The minister and officials stated that the fare increase had been decided upon in a meeting of the Fare Board. A notification will be issued soon.

Representatives of bus associations opposed the nationalisation of routes for smooth transportation services. They demanded the abolition of the 15-year age limit for buses, stating that buses should be allowed to operate as long as their fitness is valid.

Previously, a meeting of bus owners from all districts was held in Sagar on July 26, where a decision was made to launch an indefinite strike starting at 12 midnight on August 7. However, following the meeting on Monday, the bus organisations have postponed the strike.
