The Lok Sabha has revoked the suspension of eight opposition members of Parliament on Tuesday, who had been barred for remainder of Budget session. To end the ongoing deadlock, this decision followed a strategic agreement between the government and the opposition. After the Congress party formally requested the move, the government introduced a resolution that saw the suspension lifted with immediate effect.
The resolution was preceded by a brief but sharp debate where both sides pledged to respect "parliamentary boundaries" (Laxman Rekha), though neither side missed the opportunity to critique the other’s conduct.
The Debate Over Parliamentary Decorum
In response to the government's call for maintaining the dignity of the House, opposition leader argued that decoram cannot be a one way street. They said that the ruling party must also adhere to established norms. Speaker Om Birla intervened during the heated exchange, said there is a need to ensure that no placards, posters, photos or AI-generated images are displayed in the House or inside the Parliament complex.
