Kanwar Yatra Terror Alert: UP Tightens Security After Warning Of Possible Attack By Pak-Linked Shahzad Bhatti Gang

Security across Uttar Pradesh has been tightened amid the Kanwar Yatra following a central agency warning of a potential terror attack by operatives linked to the Pakistan-based Shahzad Bhatti gang. The threat comes just two days after two terrorists killed two migrant workers in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam. The central agencies say that the outfit may target pilgrims from Kanwar Yatra, government installations, religious sites, and high-footfall public areas. 

To avoid any attacks, police personnel and PAC deployments have been increased along the Kanwar Yatra routes. Intensive checking is being conducted at railway stations, bus stands, religious sites, malls, and other major public places. Police surveillance is being maintained on suspicious individuals and vehicles, along with verification of hotels, dharamshalas, and tenants.

Police Headquarters has directed police commissioners, range IGs, DIGs, and district police chiefs to review security arrangements at sensitive locations, increase patrols, and immediately share information about any suspicious activity with higher authorities and central agencies. Security agencies are maintaining constant surveillance throughout the state based on intelligence inputs.

 Kulgam Attack

Two terrorists on Friday night attacked and opened fire at two migrant workers in Kashmir’s Kulgam. The deceased individuals were identified as Deepak (24) and Bhupendra (28), who passed away during treatment at the hospital. The Resistance Front (TRF), a front organisation of Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the attack and threatened further attacks in the region.

At around 8:15 pm on Friday night, two terrorists arrived at a brick kiln in the Kelam area of Kulgam. They then asked the names of workers and then opened fire at close range. Kuldeep and Bhupendra collapsed on the ground after being shot, and the terrorists fled, thinking the two were dead.

While Kuldeep was declared dead on arrival, Bhupendra died while receiving treatment during the early hours of Saturday
