The Nemom Assembly constituency, which serves as the gateway for the Bharatiya Janata Party to the state assembly in Kerala, now Keralam, will likely be contested by three parties during the general elections of 2026: the Left Democratic Front (LDF), the United Democratic Front (UDF), and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) BJP.
The BJP has focused on the Nemom Constituency, an important political territory for the party, as they work to increase its influence throughout the state. CPI(M) Minister of Education V Sivankutty is contesting to retain the seat. He had earlier lost the seat in 2016 to BJP candidate O Rajagopal. Rajagopal provided the first ‘assembly win’ for the BJP in the state of Kerala.
BJP has been a major player in these two elections, with the CPI(M) Sivankutty winning the seat back in 2021, but the BJP receiving strong support in both elections.
In addition, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, President of the BJP of Kerala, has accused the Left Democratic Front of not carrying out their promises to the people and has made accusations of interruption of ceremonies at Sabarimala with regard to the gold theft case (being used to propagate Hindutva).
BJP has much hope of winning the Nemom constituency in Trivandrum after winning the Municipal Elections last year. RSS is also a major player in Kerala. Also, PM Modi will be helping with Chandrashekhar's campaign by having a rally in Nemom.
UDF Is Relying On Shashi Tharoor For Victory
KS Sabarinathan has been put forward as the UDF candidate for the Nemom constituency. He is the son of deceased Congress leader G Karthikeyan, and he lost the Aruvikkara seat in the last election. The UDF will be relying on the success of Shashi Tharoor, who is the MP for Trivandrum, and he has also been campaigning for KS Sabarinathan.
Polling for the Kerala Assembly Elections, 2026, will be held on April 9, with the counting of votes to be held on May 4.
