Kerala CM Suspence: Amid the suspense over the next chief minister in Kerala, posters targeting Congress senior leaders Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi appeared in Wayanad. The Congress party workers have also staged protests in multiple districts after reports suggested that the top brass might prefer KC Venugopal over S Satheesan for the top post. As per the poster put up near the Wayanad District Congress Committee office, the message was clear- the Gandhis would lose Wayanad if they backed Venugopal.

Earlier on Tuesday, the reports suggested that most of the Kerala leaders and newly elected MLAs have supported Venugopal. Rahul Gandhi also interacted with five former Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee presidents and three KPCC working presidents as the party intensified consultations on the leadership issue. However, he also raised concern over the open display of power by different factions of the party.

While Venugopal has got support from the newly elected MLAs, Satheesan enjoys massive popularity among the cadre. Apart from this, he is also backed by the allies, giving a boost to his chances. Apart from this, the former leader of the opposition has clarified that he would not accept any other post than that of chief minister, further complicating the process.

Earlier, VM Sudheeran, former state Congress president, stated that he held a detailed discussion with Rahul Gandhi. He further stated that he hoped the top brass would take a decision keeping the sentiments of the people in mind. The announcement for the next chief minister of Kerala is expected to be made on Wednesday; however, it might get postponed if further meetings are held.

Along with Amethi, Rahul Gandhi had contested from Wayanad in the 2019 assembly polls. While he suffered a humiliating defeat at his bastion, Gandhi secured a massive victory in Wayanad. He also emerged victorious in the 2024 polls, but Priyanka Gandhi successfully contested the bypoll after Rahul retained Raebareli.
