Karnataka Politics: With Karnataka set for a leadership transition after Siddaramaiah’s resignation, the Congress high command is expected to finalise the structure of the next state government.

Amid intense discussions over cabinet formation, Yathindra Siddaramaiah, son of outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, could be inducted into the new cabinet likely to be led by DK Shivakumar.

According to Jagran.com, Yathindra Siddaramaiah, who is currently a Member of the Karnataka Legislative Council (MLC), is among the frontrunners being considered for a ministerial role in the new government.

Additionally, several media reports have claimed that Siddaramaiah has sought the post of deputy chief minister for his son amid the ongoing leadership transition in Karnataka.

The political developments come after a key meeting of senior Congress leaders was held in New Delhi on Friday. The meeting was attended by Siddaramaiah, DK Shivakumar and senior Congress leader KJ George, with discussions focused on the formation of the next Karnataka government, cabinet structure and power-sharing arrangements.

Who is Yathindra Siddaramaiah?

Yathindra Siddaramaiah is the son of outgoing Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and a leader of the Indian National Congress. He currently serves as a Member of the Karnataka Legislative Council.

Before entering active politics, Yathindra built his career in the medical field. By profession, he is a pathologist.

He formally entered Karnataka politics during the 2018 Karnataka Assembly elections, contesting from the Varuna Assembly constituency in Mysuru, a seat previously represented by his father.

Yathindra won the election comfortably and served as an MLA from 2018 to 2023. However, during the 2023 Assembly elections, he vacated the seat to allow Siddaramaiah to contest from Varuna once again.
