Karnataka: KSRTC Announces Revised Charges For Extra Luggage From Today; Check Updated Tariffs Here

The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has updated extra luggage charges levied on items that passengers carry in its buses. The new rates will be effective from today, February 16, across all the buses operated by the KSRTC. These new rates do not apply just to baggage but also to pets transported on board. The update followed the routine practice of revising luggage tariffs after fare changes, which were implemented in January 2025.

Why Are Luggage Tariffs Imposed?

According to KSRTC, the luggage tariffs are reviewed after fare revisions as part of the routing operational adjustments. While ticket prices were revised, luggage rates had remained fixed since December 2021. 

The officials further said that the revised prices are necessary to align with rising operational costs and maintain service efficiency. The corporation estimates that the revised tariffs on luggage will increase the revenues by nearly 15 per cent. 

Besides the personal baggage, the KSRTC also allows transport of large household items, given that there is space inside the bus. The service also permits pets, including cats, dogs and rabbits, subject to safety and space norms.

KSRTC’s Revised Rates

The revised fee ranges from Rs 6 to Rs 145 per kg, depending on travel distance. In KSRTC calculations, one stage is approximately 6 km, and the charge increases across stage brackets.
