Karnataka CM Row: Amid speculations of leadership change in Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Tuesday arrived at Congress' office in Delhi to attend a meeting with the party top brass. As per the reports, the high-profile meeting has been called by senior leader Rahul Gandhi to discuss the cabinet reshuffle and the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls. However, the other reports also suggest the high command is also likely to address the internal rifts within the government.

Will Siddaramaiah Move To Rajya Sabha?

The party is in favour of a power transfer in Karnataka, with Siddaramaiah possibly shifting to Rajya Sabha, reported the Hindustan Times, citing people familiar with the matter. Along with a Rajya Sabha seat, the party is also expected to offer a cabinet berth for his son Yatindra. However, the chief minister is still expected to offer resistance if the party decides to give the top post to Shivakumar.

In that scenario, party president Mallikarjun Kharge, who belongs to Karnataka, is likely to be offered the chief minister post to manage the crisis. Kharge has been a prominent face of the party in Karnataka for decades; however, he never got the opportunity to lead the government.

KC Venugopal Likely To Get Promotion

KC Venugopal, current party general secretary and a confidant of Rahul Gandhi, is expected to be given the post of national president if Kharge moves to Karnataka. Venugopal recently faced a massive setback after VD Satheesan was preferred over him for the post of Keralam chief minister. However, the top brass could compensate by giving him the top post in the party, reports suggested.

What Next For DK Shivakumar?

On being asked if he could be the next chief minister, Shivakumar refused to give any answer and smiled at the reporters. "Going to the first Karnataka Bhavan and will take part in the meeting," Shivakumar said without elaborating further. While he is not likely to get the top post, some of his close MLAs might get key portfolios during the cabinet reshuffle.
