Jagran Correspondent, Faridabad: Several labourers were trapped while one died after a heavy-duty crane lifting girders lost balance at a flyover construction site linked to the Faridabad-Jewar Greenfield Expressway. The flyover is being constructed to connect to the Noida International Airport in Jewar, Gautam Budhha Nagar.

The incident took place on Thursday evening, triggering a massive outcry. The rescue operation was initiated promptly, and one worker was evacuated from beneath the crane.

According to eyewitnesses, heavy rain in the evening had left the construction site muddy and slippery. After the rain subsided, workers were back at work. While lifting girders for the flyover, the heavy crane suddenly lost its balance and toppled to the ground.

Around six to seven workers were present at the scene. It is reported that three to four of them were trapped under the crane.

Upon receiving information about the incident, a police team, construction company officials, and local villagers arrived at the scene. Machines and other resources were deployed to free the workers trapped under the crane. Construction work has been halted following the accident.

The crane is likely an overhead type, which is huge and hence is difficult to remove from the site in a small time and less resources.

NHAI, administrative officials, and a large police force are present at the scene.
