J-K Terror Attack: The Pakistan-backed militants on Friday evening shot dead a migrant labourer and injured another in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district. As per the security experts, the attack was planned in Islamabad and was aimed at diverting attention from the growing protests in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The initial reports suggest that the terrorists opened fire on the migrant workers after sunset and escaped, taking advantage of the darkness.

Search Op Underway

The Resistance Front (TRF), a front of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, is suspected to be behind the deadly attack in Kulgam district. The security forces, upon being informed, arrived at the site immediately, cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. The injured worker was rushed to a nearby hospital and has been receiving treatment there, the reports suggested.

The killing on Friday was the first attack on migrant workers in South Kashmir after a gap of nearly four years. The attack comes amid escalated protests in the Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK), where thousands of protesters have taken to the streets in multiple regions, including Rawalakot, Muzaffarabad, and Mirpur.

Massive Protests In PoK

As per the reports, the protesters have raised the issues of inflation, power cuts, and military repression. Apart from this, several separatist groups have also raised slogans of independence, giving sleepless nights to the Sharif administration.

Security and intelligence experts, following the attack in Kulgam, stated that Pakistan and its intelligence agencies are alarmed by growing discontent in the region. Former police chief SP Vaid asserted that the Pakistan wanted to divert attention from the protest.

"By carrying out attacks in Kashmir, they want to divert attention from PoK to India and create an atmosphere of fear in Jammu and Kashmir through such killings," Vaid was quoted as saying by Jagran. He further said that Pakistan is unable to tolerate peace and normalcy in Kashmir and has activated its terrorist proxies.
