Under Google's flagship Digikavach initiative, Jagran New Media and Vishvas News organised a workshop titled "Digital Safety for Senior Citizens: Sach Ke Saathi" for residents of Mirzapur. The webinar, held on March 6, 2026 (Friday), aimed to raise awareness among senior citizens about online fraud and scams while equipping them with practical tips to stay safe in the digital world.

During the session, Pallavi Mishra, Trainer and Deputy Editor at Vishvas News, highlighted that cases of online fraud are increasing every year, with senior citizens often being the primary targets. She explained the various methods used by cybercriminals and shared practical ways to identify and avoid such scams.

She warned that cybercriminals frequently circulate phishing links disguised as attractive offers, especially during festive seasons. The safest way to avoid such fraud, she said, is never to click on suspicious or unknown links.

Emphasising the importance of strong passwords, Mishra noted that weak passwords are easy for scammers to hack, making user accounts vulnerable. She advised participants to create strong passwords to secure their Google and social media accounts, adding that Google Passkeys provide an easy and secure alternative for account protection.

She also discussed AI-enabled online fraud, explaining how cybercriminals increasingly use AI-generated deepfake videos to deceive people. Mishra pointed out that several viral videos show celebrities seemingly encouraging people to invest money, but such videos are often fabricated using AI. She advised people to remain cautious whenever someone pressures them to invest money quickly or urgently.

The programme in Mirzapur was organised with support from the Vindhya Foundation Trust. Its founder, Ashutosh Kumar, praised the initiative, calling it the need of the hour. He urged people to report any instance of online fraud to the police and also inform others so they can stay alert.
